Pod Save America’s Crooked Ideas: A Bold Conversation on Change

A Conversation for Change, Hosted by Pod Save America

At Press Play: Creatives, we get to document events that spark important conversations and drive meaningful change. Our collaboration with Crooked Media’s Pod Save America for their first-ever Crooked Ideas event in Michigan was one of those moments where storytelling met impact.

The event, part of Crooked Media’s Anti-Doom Initiative, brought together a powerhouse lineup of voices at Miss Kim’s in Ann Arbor, Michigan to discuss solutions to some of today’s most pressing challenges. We were tasked with capturing the event’s professionally shot video footage, and we also produced a highlight reel for Crooked’s internal teams to showcase the impact of the night.

What is the Anti-Doom Initiative?

Crooked Media’s Anti-Doom Initiative is an effort to combat political hopelessness by spotlighting real, actionable solutions and celebrating the people making a difference. It’s about shifting the conversation from cynicism to action, providing audiences with tangible ways to engage in progressive change.

The Crooked Ideas event was designed to embody this mission—bringing together leaders, creators, and activists to explore climate action, economic development, and storytelling as tools for progress.

A Day of Meaningful Dialogue

This event featured a dynamic panel of speakers, including policy leaders, economic strategists, digital creators, chefs, and photographers, all contributing their expertise to an engaging discussion on climate solutions, economic development, and the role of storytelling in activism.

Pod Save America’s Jon Lovett hosted the event alongside Crooked Media’s Jon Millstein, leading insightful conversations with guests like Michigan’s Chief Climate & Energy Strategists, the CEO of Michigan Economic Development Corporation, digital strategists, content creators, and industry leaders. Together, they explored how innovation, policy, and creative storytelling can inspire action and real-world change.

Our Role: Capturing & Producing Video Content

For this project, we were responsible for capturing all professionally shot video footage from the event, ensuring that every conversation, moment, and reaction was documented with the highest quality. Our goal was to preserve the energy of the night, allowing the impact of these discussions to extend beyond the room.

Additionally, we produced a highlight reel for Crooked Media’s internal teams—giving them a dynamic, engaging recap of the event that they could use for internal reflection and future storytelling.

The Power of Storytelling in Political Engagement

The Crooked Ideas event was a powerful reminder that stories drive change. Whether it’s through policy discussions, food culture, or digital media, every voice in the room had something important to contribute.

At Press Play: Creatives, we are proud to have played a role in capturing these moments, helping Crooked Media extend the conversation beyond the live event and into the digital world.
